The Hump Day Huddle is my brainchild. I, Lori, am its nursemaid, its foster mother, its guardian. I am the early bird at the Fisgard St Forum.
The Huddle was conceived in the realization that for people whose work or life in general find them at home most days, it’s important to get out and mingle during the week, as a critical part of self care. In its first couple of months, the Huddle has become a social beast, an opportunity for people to find community, network, and freshen up their week in the early dark mornings of winter. By coming together over breakfast we can exchange ideas and energy, and Hump Day is the perfect time to do that.
Spring is coming, and with it the idea of new beginnings. A few Huddles ago, a young woman who works in employment programs began attending. She started offering her expertise in the writing of resumes, the crafting of cover letters, and the practicing of interview skills to attendees, all for free as a give-back to the community. And now, there’s a big Job Fair coming up in town here on Thursday, March 16th – if you’re currently job hunting, come out to the Huddle the day before to get a bit of help gratis to get interview-ready!
The Hump Day Huddle takes place every Wednesday morning, from 8 am to 11 am, at the Fisgard St Forum. An optional light breakfast of yogurt, muffin, fruit and coffee or tea is offered for $7. Attendees can join the conversation, network their business, work on their job search readiness, catch up with the rest of the group, or just find a quiet corner to get some work done.
